Coffee is one of my energy booster. It is always part of my breakfast and sometimes merienda. 🙂 But when I got pregnant last year, my OB told me to not to take coffee anymore. I have to follow her because I know it’s for me and my baby.

When I gave birth last February, I am excited to drink coffee again. But I need to limit it for just a cup per day because I’m exclusively breastfeeding my baby, caffeine also affects her. Drinking more than two or three cups of coffee a day may cause baby irritable, jittery or agitated and contribute to sleeping problems.

Few days ago, I received a package from Barlico – their product line are barley and chicory-based instant coffee substitutes that are 100% caffeine free and are made from all-natural ingredients.

Given my situation, I need to look for healthy alternative coffee and this product is a must to try.

Here are some of the important facts of Barlico:
  • healthy and caffeine-free coffee alternative brand popular in the Middle East and Egypt
  • made of barley and chicory (barley – a major cereal grain and chicory – a close relative of lettuce and cabbage; both have good health benefits).
  • 100% caffeine-free and made from all-natural ingredients
Barlico has four flavors:
  • Barley and Chicory Instant Coffee Substitute
  • 3-in-1 : Barley and chicory + Non Dairy Creamer & Sugar
  • Cappuccino: Barley and Chicory Coffee Substitute + Foam Creamer
  • Barley and Chicory Instant Hot Chocolate

Is Barlico safe for Pregnant and Breastfeeding Mothers?

Yes (yehey!!! ^_^)  For lactating moms like me, we can consume Barlico as a substitute for coffee because it is 100% caffeine-free and does not present any negative effects to pregnancy and breastfeeding. In fact, barley-based drinks are known to increase milk supply.

What’s my Verdict on Barlico?

When I tried Barlico, it has the taste, flavor and aroma of coffee. And because it’s caffeine-free, I took it twice or thrice a day and haven’t notice any effect to me and my baby.

And surprisingly, after I take Barlico, I have a strong let down, it increases my milk supply. Yehey!!!

Me and my 5 years old daughter also loves the hot chocolate. Every morning, Rylee wants Barlico hot chocolate paired with her favorite pancake.

Barlico is also a good substitute especially for those who are experiencing acid reflux. I actually shared some Barlico coffee to a mommy friend who has acid reflux and she loves it too.

Where can we buy Barlico?

It is available in select stores and supermarkets nationwide. Price is also ok in our budget. Instant Coffee Substitute Granules (SRP Php 80) , 3-in-1 (SRP Php 80), Cappuccino (SRP Php 110) and Chocolate (SRP Php 120).

So, should I recommend Barlico to coffee-sensitive people and pregnant/breastfeeding mommies? My answer is a big YES!

Try it now and make a Healthier choice!
