When I was a little girl, I always ask my cousin who works abroad to give me Barbie dolls as my pasalubong. Yes, that’s right, Barbie is very famous worldwide!

In align with this, the Art Capital of the Philippines, Rizal, is celebrating its 117th Araw ng Lalawigan. To celebrate this momentous occasion, SM City Taytay, together with Richprime Global lnc., Mattel, Toy Kingdom and the Association of Tourism Officers of Rizal, recently launched Barbie in the East, a showcase of the iconic Barbie dressed in different gowns represented by 13 towns and 1 city of Rizal.
Barbie in the East aims to urge creativity and resourcefulness to each participants representing their municipalities depicting their culture and lifestyle.
These creations were hand-made by each representative’s last May 25, 2018, at SM City Taytay.
The grand ribbon cutting ceremony was graced by the presence of Madam Andrea Ynares, Rizal Arts Federation Chairwoman and First Lady of Rizal, Vice Governor Reynaldo San Juan, Jr. of Rizal, Rizal Tourism Officer Dra. Corazon Lacerna, Toy Kingdom Senior AVP Ms. Bernie Ma Mon Luk, Richprime Global Inc Sales Division Head Ms. Mavic Mendoza and SM Representatives – Ms. Maureen Fernandez, Mall Manager of SM City Taytay, Mr. Peppi Jahrling, Regional Operations Manager for Central 3 and Mr. Ronald Allan Brosas, SAVP for Operations.
The Barbies was judged by stylist Mr. Jhay Layson, Costume Designer Ms. Katrina Lucilo, Philippine Pet Fashion Icon Ms. Bernie Alfonso and Toy Kingdom Senior AVP Ms. Bernie Ma Mon Luk.

Over the years, SM City Taytay hosted inter-town contests with the likes of Paint your Town in a Gown, Byahe Tayo – Intertown Miniature Jeepney designing contest, Pinoy Fun as Barong Intertown Barong Design contest, Art in Cutlery intertown giant spoon and fork hand painting competition, and now Barbie in the East a passion for Filipiniana Fashion.
Barbie in the East will be displayed at the Ground floor, Bldg. A of SM City Taytay from June 4 until June 17, 2018.
